| It's feels so good to be free! I only have 2 more weeks of classes left, but my finals are done! Yay! And the weather is perfect out...time to play some tennis again. |

| I didn't get a chance to update on the surgery last week. Anyway everything went great. Even though "Dash" was sedated, he struggled a bit when I was putting in the catheter before surgery, but I managed to put it in on the first try. I think he just hates to be restrained. Other than that everything went smoothly. His heart rate and respiratory rate stayed within the normal range the whole time, which made my job a lot easier. Recovery also went smoothly. We needed to be with our animals until they're able to get up and walk around. Some groups stayed for like 2 hours after their surgery! "Dash" was awake and walking around within like a half an hour or so. Here's a picture of him recovery from surgery. For some reason he wanted to lay on his back.
Next week I'm supposed to be doing surgery, but today I just heard that the humane society that have been providing us the animals just backed out! I guess there were complications from the Thursday surgery group and some of the incisions dehisced. The humane society didn't want to deal with it. But incisions were checked by the actual surgeons themselves so we think the problem was that the animals were put out for adoption too early. So surgeries may be cancelled next week. Our professor is trying his best to find some animals though. That would really suck if my surgery week was cancelled. |

| Our surgery group is neutering a dog tomorrow and I'm the anesthetist!! I think this is more nerve racking than being the surgeon. I've monitored patients at work before and even prepared the preanesthetics, but the protocol at the U is different than what I'm used to. At work everything is layed out for me and all I have to do is follow it. Here I have to calculate my own doses and drip rates...hopefully I've calculated them correctly and won't kill my patient tomorrow. >_< And the anesthesia form is way more confusing and every little thing like the position of the patient's eye has to be recorded every 15 minutes. *sigh* Wish me luck tomorrow. |
